Virtualization Software

Virtualization software allows you to run multiple operating systems on one, by using a software application called a hypervisor.

The hypervisor is used to create an environment for the virtualized operating system, in essence fooling it into thinking it is running on hardware when in fact it is running within a virtual container abstracted from the hardware of the host machine. The hardware that virtualization hardware is running on, the host, can run multiple hypervisors or virtualized machines, depending on resources available.
